WU YINXIAN - Inside the great hall of people 1981
1981 wurde der damals 81 jährige Wu Yinxan von der Regierung beauftragt in der “Großen Halle des Volkes“ Fotografien für einen Kalender zu machen, der Teil einer großen Werbekampagne für das neu erbaute Repräsentationshaus werden sollte. Für die Fertigstellung brauchte er über drei Jahre. Der Wandkalender erschien damals in einer Auflage von 30 Millionen Exemplaren. Im Jahr 2008 wurden diese Fotografien aus dem Familienarchiv des Künstlers wieder geborgen und sind nun in einer exklusiven Edition in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Internationalen Festival der Fotografie in Lianzhou, China wieder erhältlich.
Die Fotografien wurden betont sachlich konzipiert. In der Aufnahmetechnik bevorzugte er Zentralperspektiven, Verzerrungsfreiheit und (meist) menschenleere Räume. Damit auch Einzelheiten präzise wiedergegeben werden konnten, benutzte Wu Großformatkameras im Format 13 x 18 cm.
Historisch betrachtet sind diese Aufnahmen heute ein wichtiges Zeugnis für das Ende des "sozialistischen Realismus" und sind vergleichbar mit den Aufnahmen der später bekannt gewordenen Schüler von Bernd und Hilla Becher wie z.B. Candida Höfer und Andreas Gursky.
In 1981, Wu Yinxan, then 81 years old, was commissioned by the government to take photographs in the "Great Hall of the People" for a calendar that was to become part of a major advertising campaign for the newly built House of Representation. It took him over three years to complete. At that time, the wall calendar was published in an edition of 30 million copies. In 2008, these photographs were recovered from the artist's family archive and are now available again in an exclusive edition in collaboration with the International Festival of Photography in Lianzhou, China.
The photographs were conceived in an emphatically objective manner. In terms of shooting technique, he favored central perspectives, freedom from distortion, and (mostly) deserted spaces. To ensure that details could also be reproduced precisely, Wu used large-format cameras in the 13 x 18 cm format.
Historically, these photographs are today an important testimony to the end of "socialist realism" and are comparable to the photographs taken by Bernd and Hilla Becher's students who later became famous, such as Candida Höfer and Andreas Gursky.
