thomas Knoefel: blut – okkulte stories

NEW PUBLICATION

Clairvoyant grandmothers, Nigerian animal sacrifices in Berlin-Wedding, a youth with a deep love for everything that bleeds, jealous fetishes, people who dream of the undreamable in a trance, the staggering of bodies into the incorporeal. Transitions from here to there, from seriousness to an astonishing punch line. Not only is nothing human alien to Thomas Knoefel, even the spirits are as familiar to him as close friends. Much of what is reported here is - I know - based on personal experience. During his lifetime he wrote and loved like one who has travelled to the other side and returned unharmed. Now that he has changed sides of his own free will and for good, it is to be hoped that the afterlife will be just as fantastic, rich in imagery and laced with tender comedy as his tales of it.

It is not difficult to find autobiographical details about the author in the twelve stories; indeed, one is almost inclined to conclude from the content that this is the 'Chronicle of a Death Foretold'. The fragmentary and in some places obviously unfinished nature of the texts is probably due to the fact that the careful revision, often driven to the point of mania, could not come to a conclusion due to the despair and suicide of the author. In the prelude to the Occult Breviary "The Living and the Dead", in the context of which the Occult Stories were written, the author reports on his first contacts with the dead and his lifelong struggle with the dead.
